Guide To Buying Kids Shoes
Buying the right shoes for your child can often be a daunting task for any mother. Kids don’t really enjoy going shopping for shoes, but as they grow so quickly in the first few years of their lives, choosing the right shoes is really important.
We have put together a few tips for mums who are looking for some advice on buying shoes for their kids:
When do you buy them new shoes?
Children, no matter how much attention they need, may not always tell you when they need new shoes. It is really important to check your child’s shoes on a regular basis, looking for any obvious tears or worn areas that may be making the shoes unsafe or painful for the child to wear.
What time should I take my kids shoe shopping?
You probably haven’t asked yourself this question when thinking about buying your child their next pair of shoes, but the time of day can make quite a big difference to the size of their feet. Our feet swell over the course of the day, childrens’ feet swell more than adults, so to make sure you buy the right size shoes take them shopping in the afternoon.
My child doesn’t like having their feet measured which makes shoe shopping difficult.
Always have your kids feet measured when buying shoes, no matter how much they might protest. This is probably the most important any mother should have when buying their kids shoes.
Their shoes might be comfortable when standing in the shoe shop, but after a day or two of playing, the shoes may not seem quite as comfortable as they did before. Always measure your child’s feet when they are stood up and always measure both feet. Kids feet are naturally larger than the other so always buy the larger size of the two.
What to look for to ensure the best fit.
Kids toes should not be squashed when trying on shoes, always leave about half an inch between the tip of the toes and the inner front of the shoe.
It can be tempting to buy shoes that are a little bit larger than the child’s actual size to allow them to grow into them, but this is unadvisable. Shoes should fit correctly and feel comfortable when they wear them and the heel should not flop off when they walk, nor be too tight.
Where is the best place to buy shoes?
Shoe shops that specifically sell childrens’ shoes employ staff that are trained to fit footer designed with the child’s comfort and safety in mind. They are also a good place to shop if your child doesn’t like shopping as much as you do!
My daughter wants some designer shoes, are these suitable?
Designer footwear has always been something for adults, but with the rising popularity of designer clothing for children, with brands such as Hugo Boss, Diesel, DKNY, Ralph Lauren, Quicksilver and Timberland all making clothing ranges purely for children, I wouldn’t be surprised if your kids want to wear clothes like Zack Efron and Miley Cyrus.
As long as the child feels comfortable wearing the shoes and they are the right size, then buying designer shoes isn’t a problem. If you have the right budget to buy designer clothing for your child and you have followed our advice then go for it!
