Chuck Hayes made the first triple-double of his career on Wednesday night at Toyota Center as the Houston Rockets thrashed the Golden State Warriors 131-112. A fitting encore for the Rockets’ longest home stand of the season, Hayes’ career night came right on the heels of Kyle Lowry’s triple-double performance versus the Utah JazzMonday night. But despite the victory, Houston gained no ground on the Memphis Grizzlies who lead the Rockets by only two games for the final playoff seed in the western conference.
For the 17th time this season, the Rockets’ number one scoring threat Kevin Martin tallied more than 30 points. Martin finished with 34 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the floor. 3-pointers were falling all night for Martin too. On 4-of-7 from behind the 3-point line, Martin killed the Warriors in transition. If that wasn’t already enough, Martin was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Next, the Rockets will travel to the east coast on a three-game road trip, which starts on Tuesday evening against the improving New Jersey Nets, followed by a game versus LeBron James and the high-flyingMiami Heat, who currently rank third in the eastern conference standings.
