Fur fanatics this spring/summer 2011
Fur fashion has been making its mark back on the runways for the last few seasons but none more so than for the spring/summer 2011 collections. With the combined force of vibrant prints and bold hues adorning the latest styles and creative cuts; the who’s who of fashion are stepping out from the dark shadow tones and pledging a very loud allegiance.
One of the big music hits for the summer also contains one of the big fashion hits for the sun-filled days as Rihanna’s “S & M” music video features a bold teal with black and white stripe fox fur stole from Prada’s spring/summer 2011 collection. The fox favourite is available in a range of kaleidoscope in-your-face colours that shouldn’t work but do, such as orange paired with pink and green stripes or perhaps the more tonal matching of baby blue with dark green and black stripes or the intensely patriotic white with red and blue stripes. The stole has been dubbed the must-have of the season and its popularity can be proven through its appearance on a number of celebrities and renowned fashionistas from designers like Marc Jacobs to Vogue’s Anna Dello Russo or Marie Claire’s Taylor Tomasi Hill.
The Olsen twins of Mary-Kate and Ashley have been leading the youth field by flaunting their designs upon their own famous frames at A-list parties and events. Steadily gaining a large amount of respect within the fashion industry for their daring and progressive collections; their love of fur is evident from the craftsmanship displayed from their designs and the elegance of the silhouette that marries a 50′s Hollywood glamour with contemporary trends and boho-chic in their couture line, The Row. Stand out items from their recent classy Ready-to-Wear collections include slinky leather skirts and their sheer range of fur coats.
Paris Hilton is rarely out of the news and knows how to work a red carpet with the latest designer fashions and has recently shown how to glam it up with a sleek fur shawl married with a formal, sparkling lbd evening gown. While supermodel Kate Moss shows us how to keep it effortlessly casual with skinny jeans and a plain black body scooped t, finished with a fur coat that colour blocks the sleeves with flashes of reds and browns across the body with matching cuffs; demonstrating to everyone that at 37, this catwalk Queen still knows how to easily hit trend about town without breaking her stride.
Popular editions to the formal wardrobe this spring/summer is the cross body stole, ideal as a warming alternative to jackets, it sits snugly wrapped around the body from the shoulders down to the elbows. Other designs include the light cut bolero from Fendi, the draped and pocketed shearling stole from L’Agence, the sumptuous rabbit snoods from Karl Donoghue and the feathered high neck fur coat or its matching skirt from Yves Saint Laurent. Adding that touch of glamour to a summer garden party and emulating your favourite fashion icons has never been so easy.
