Viktor & Rolf: Fashion’s Legend Duo
Viktor & Rolf is owned by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren. Fashion experts refer to them as the “Gilbert and George” of the fashion industry. The designers have started making clothes in 1993 with the goal of combining fashion and the arts. Both graduated from the Netherland’s Arnhem Academy of Art and Design – which explains their exceptional concept, showmanship, and wit of their every creation launched on the runway.
Viktor & Holf took a big leap from haute couture to RTWs in 2000. Their wearable items resemble genuine modesty. Even if they used to be known for their one-of-a-kind statement, the real essence of their ready-to-wear pieces is high-quality simplicity.
But aside from their designs, the brand is also known for their grandiose fashion shows and exhibits. The Viktor & Rolf Dollhouse was exhibited at the Barbican Art gallery in UK. It was a room filled with 50 19th century dolls – all at two feet tall – wearing some of their most memorable creations in the past 15 years. Their fashion shows always leave the audience something to remember. Tori Amos, Roisin Murphy, Rufus Wainwright, OK Go, and for their Summer 2011 collection, La Roux are just some of the high-caliber performers who make every Viktor & Rolf show memorable.
